You get a straight answer about whether your area is open. If it is taken, we say so instead of selling you something else.

What does applying actually commit me to?
A phone call. Aria rings you, asks a few questions, and Kallisti follows up. Nobody takes a card number and there is nothing to sign.
Why an application and not a form?
Because we can only take one shop per trade in an area, so we have to know the trade and the area before we can tell you anything useful.
When will the call come?
Between 8am and 8pm your local time, usually within a few minutes. Apply at two in the morning and it waits for a civilised hour.
What if my area is already taken?
You get told that, plainly. We would rather lose the sale than sell you something we already promised somebody else in your trade.
Can I just call instead?
