You Own Everything We Build — Here's Why That's Non-Negotiable

A plumber in Round Rock called me last year. Good guy, ran a tight operation, had been paying a marketing agency $1,800 a month for two years. He wanted to leave them. Turned out he couldn't — not cleanly, anyway. The agency owned his domain, controlled his Google Business Profile, held the login to his ad account. When he asked for the credentials, they stonewalled him. He eventually got everything back, but it took three months and a lawyer's letter.

That story isn't rare. It's the standard operating model for a lot of agencies. Lock the client in by controlling the infrastructure. Make leaving painful. I watched it happen to trade owners I knew before I ever got into tech, and it's one of the main reasons I started Bizinabox the way I did.

The rule here is simple: everything we build, you own. No exceptions, no fine print.

What "Ownership" Actually Means in Practice

Ownership isn't just a handshake promise. It has to be structured into the work from day one. Here's what that looks like concretely:

  • Your domain is registered under your name or your business entity — not ours. We help you set it up at the registrar, you hold the account.
  • Your Google Business Profile, Google Ads account, and Meta Business Manager are yours. We request access as a partner or manager. If you fire us tomorrow, you revoke access and we're out — clean, no drama.
  • Your website lives on hosting you control. We set it up, we hand you the credentials, we document everything. The codebase, the content, the design files — all of it transfers to you at project close.
  • Your CRM and automation workflows are built in platforms where you hold the primary account. We're operators inside your system, not the system's owner.
  • Your ad spend goes directly to the platform. You fund your own Google or Meta account. We never touch your billing or run ads through a house account and mark up the spend.

This isn't how most agencies operate. Some of this is laziness — it's easier to run everything under a master agency account. But a lot of it is deliberate. Control equals leverage.

Why This Matters More for Trades Than Almost Any Other Industry

Service trades run on reputation and availability. Your Google Business Profile is basically your storefront. If an agency controls it and something goes sideways — they close up, get acquired, have a billing dispute with Google — you could lose reviews, ranking history, and visibility overnight with no recourse.

According to BrightLocal's 2025 Local Consumer Review Survey, 81% of consumers use Google to evaluate local businesses, and reviews are the primary trust signal. That profile is worth real money to your operation. You wouldn't let a vendor own your truck or your tools. Don't let one own your Google profile.

In Austin and the surrounding markets — Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Kyle, Buda, San Marcos — the trades are competitive enough that losing a few weeks of visibility during an ownership dispute can cost you booked jobs. The stakes are concrete.

The Real Test: What Happens When You Leave?

Every service relationship ends eventually. The honest way to build one is to make the exit clean by design. When a client parts ways with Bizinabox — whether they're going in-house, switching to another vendor, or just scaling down — the handoff process is straightforward because ownership was never in question.

We document every asset, every login, every integration. We do an offboarding call, transfer any remaining access, and make sure the next person stepping in — whether that's your nephew who took a marketing course or a new agency — can pick up without losing a week figuring out what's what.

That's the standard. It shouldn't be remarkable, but in this industry, it apparently is.

How to Audit Your Current Setup Right Now

If you're already working with someone and you're not sure where you stand, here's a fast check:

  • Log into GoDaddy, Namecheap, or wherever your domain lives. Is your name on the account? If you don't know where the domain is registered, that's already a problem.
  • Open Google Business Profile Manager. Are you listed as the owner — not just a manager?
  • Check Google Ads and Meta Business Manager. Do you hold the primary account, or are you a user inside someone else's account?
  • Ask your current vendor: If I stop paying you tomorrow, what do I walk away with? Their answer will tell you everything.

If those answers make you nervous, fix it now — not when you're already trying to leave.

We built Bizinabox around trade owners who've been burned before and owners who are smart enough not to get burned the first time. Either way, the structure is the same: you own it, we operate it, and you're never trapped.

If you want to talk through your current setup or start fresh with a vendor you can actually trust, reach out to Bizinabox. We're straightforward about what we do and how it works — before you ever sign anything.

Need help with this for your business? We build it, set it up, and keep it running.
